VAFCCA also know, as The Alliance is the Virginia link with a unified voice for Family Child Care Providers. Our history dates back to 1977 when Alyce Cheesnoe and Karen Chevallier spearheaded what was the beginning of the Northern Virginia Child Care Association (NVCCA). NVCCA’s purpose was the pursuit of educating each other through monthly meetings, sharing of best practices, socialization, and encouragement. Over the years, NVCCA’s membership grew to 500 .

Since 1989, The Alliance has represented, supported, and provided training services and resources to hundreds of Family Child Care Providers and others in the child care industry. VAFCCA addresses legislative issues, which affect children, families, and child care workers by advocating for fair and uniform child care regulations and enforcement. The practice of monthly meetings at the Local Association level continues. In the pursuit of excellence, an Annual Training Conference evolved. Through The Alliance Education Fund , the 17th Annual Training Conference will be offered on September 19-21, 2008..2008 Conference Activities

The Alliance Education Fund (AEF) is a tax exempt nonprofit affiliate that serves as a funding vehicle to VAFCCA to provide resources to fund professional development training opportunities. All donations, contributions, and grants are to AEF. VAFCCA Education Committee manages the affairs of the Alliance Educational Fund.

Membership growth and competent leadership are key ingredients to our overall success. Currently, membership level of 500 is divided amongst 21 Local Associations located across the State. Growth, training, and educational outreach opportunities are abundant. Boards of Directors are equipped for their respective duties and responsibilities with as much as 25 years of child care experience, education, diverse talents, and business experiences.

Accomplishment of the stated goals is dependent on collaboration and partnership arrangement with other child care agencies and the business community. Our 2006 agenda called for a state wide public policy and public relations outreach. The children currently in our care are the adults for tomorrow’s workforce. It is fiscally responsible to seek support from the business community. Our website is such an example of the reference partnership with business. It is an investment by Bentech Technologies, Inc. It is also a testimony of what can be accomplished working together.

It is with enthusiasm and confident that we look forward to establishing a relationship with a legacy which will last a lifetime.
