The Alliance Quarterly Newsletter

The Alliance Quarterly is the leading source of news and information for and about VAFCCA members and activities. The Quarterly also shares information about legislation, trainings, and other current events, activities, and issues concerning family childcare across the state of Virginia. Copies are sent to VAFCCA members and interested parties such as the VA Department of Social Services, USDA Food Program sponsors, State legislators, local authorities, advertisers, and potential members of the VA Alliance.

Each edition includes the President’s message, list of Local Associations and contacts, Board of Directors names and contact information, news from the Local Associations, training events, VAFCCA website & mission statement, useful information, advertisements, and articles of interest. Articles for inclusion are received from local association contacts, committee chairs, and other sources.
The newsletter committee works with the advertising committee and others to solicit advertisement to be placed in the newsletter. This helps to defray costs associated with publishing a statewide newsletter.

Publishing this newsletter is a great responsibility because for an organization such as the VA Alliance to achieve its goals, its members, and interested parties must be kept informed regularly. Information must be accurate, current, objective, and pertinent to its readers. These requirements make publishing this newsletter both a challenge and opportunity. The challenge of perfection (accurate & no typos) and the opportunity of complete information dissemination, two of the goals this committee and editor strive to obtain.

Another responsibility, challenge, and opportunity come with the “power of the press.” People really do read newsletters, and they believe most of what they read. The written word carries the power to influence its readers and to make a difference in what people think and do. It must be used wisely. The Board of Directors, the committee, and the editor sometimes share decisions about what should or should not be printed. This keeps the Alliance Quarterly from becoming one person’s platform or soapbox. Moreover, because of input from providers across the state of Virginia, it truly is a marvelous representation of Virginia Family Child Care and an opportunity to deliver The Alliance Quarterly Newsletter Publication to over 1,000 child care professionals and their families.
