                                     Worthy Wage Day 2008
Worthy Wage Day is on May 1, 2008!  Worthy Wage Day is a national day of action, held annually since 1991, in an ongoing grassroots campaign on behalf of the early childhood education workforce. On this day, we call attention to the importance of early childhood education and the dedication of the workforce that cares for our community’s youngest citizens. On May 1, members of the U.S. Congress will hear from early childhood educators about the state of the early childhood education workforce including low wages, lack of benefits and high turnover. Many advocates from around the country will be planning their own Worthy Wage Day activities in their communities. Please share your Worthy Wage Day stories with us by e-mail at ccw@aft.org

Board of Directors service is a commitment of time and financial resources. Board members are individuals willing to obligate themselves and their families on behalf of The Alliance. Board members are ordinary individuals motivated and committed to work towards the attainment of extraordinary accomplishments. Members desiring to acquire leadership skills and talents to serve on the VAFCCA Board are encouraged to do one of the following: to serve as a committee chair person, as an active committee member, or a board member at the Local Association level. VAFCCA is a volunteer managed association. Nevertheless, expectations of board duties and responsibilities meet (and at times may exceed) that of a comparable paid position. The personal growth are immeasurable and the benefits invaluable. You get to have a say in raising the quality of child care services, to promote Family Child Care as a profession, promote public awareness, and solicit policy makers support in the enactment of laws, which protect children and those that work for and with children.
